ARMS EXPORT

The United Arab Emirates Army initially ordered 55 M-ATVs through a FMS sale in 2011. The UAE ordered another 750 M-ATVs direct from Oshkosh in July 2012. These are to provide greater off-road mobility and crew protection for regional security and peace-keeping operations; users include the elite Presidential Guard. Deliveries were completed in August 2013. In September 2014, the UAE requested another 44 M-ATVs from U.S. surplus stocks. In September 2013, the Saudi Arabian Army began negotiations for an order for an undisclosed number of M-ATVs. MAINTENANCE

US armoured vehicle manufacturer Oshkosh Defence has set up a joint venture, Oshkosh Al Tadrea Manufacturing (OTM) with Saudi Arabia’s Al Tadrea Manufacturing, of which the latter will be the majority shareholder, in order to establish a local manufacturer for wheeled tactical vehicles. The Saudi kingdom will hold the largest property share, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency. OTM will “develop manufacturing expertise to become a major partner for wheeled tactical vehicle services, [and] it will also provide the necessary services to its customers in the security and military sectors in the Kingdom, through an integrated and sustainable support fleet, as well as activating the supply chains more broadly and more efficiently,” the report read.
